International Literacy Day

Every year on September 8, International Literacy Day is held. Back in 2002, the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed 2003-2012. - a decade of literacy.

The purpose of the International Literacy Day

The main task of holding such a holiday is to involve the public in the problem of insufficient literacy of mankind. Because many adults and still remain illiterate, and children do not attend schools and do not want to study because of lack or lack of finance, lack of motivation for learning and the influence of society. In addition, even the person who graduated from school and other educational institutions, can be considered illiterate, because it will not correspond to the level of education of the modern world. The fight against illiteracy, on a global scale, is still considered the most important task.

And, of course, it is dedicated to people who give knowledge to children in all schools, students, professionals, masters in universities, etc. And, of course, September 8 is a day of literacy for all illiterates, which, unfortunately, in our time in developing countries is quite a lot.

Events for the International Literacy Day

On this day it is customary to hold various conferences, meetings of teachers, outstanding teachers, where they receive awards and gratitude for their priceless work.

In schools, all school quizzes, olympiads in the native language are timed to this, thus attracting the attention of both schoolchildren and teachers to the problem of illiteracy in the world. Activists of this movement distribute leaflets with the rules of the Russian language, and libraries conduct fascinating lessons in literacy.
