At the same time, a paper analogue was spread in China. In the Middle Ages, the handkerchief was an invariable attribute of lovers: women decorated them with the lance of their knights in tournaments. In the Renaissance, lace handkerchiefs were a luxury and were used only by rich, noble ladies.

In the East, handkerchiefs also served high purposes, for example, a handkerchief thrown at a woman, symbolized an expression of great respect for her person.

In Russia, this accessory was treated more prosaically: in the Middle Ages it was called "wiping" or "fly". The last name he got for cutting it out of a piece of cloth in width.

At present, tissue and paper handkerchiefs are widely distributed. By the way, the paper accessory is not a novelty of the industrial society at all - it was started in the late 19th century at the Göppingen factory.
