Fountains of Rome

Rome is one of the main cities in Europe. He has a rich history and a huge number of attractions, among which the fountains take pride of place. In the 17th century, they were built to provide the townspeople with drinking water, but this did not prevent the eminent architects of the time from creating real masterpieces that delight the Romans and tourists so far.

The Fountain of Love

The largest fountain in Rome is the Trevi Fountain . Its height reaches 25.9 m and its width is 19.8 m. The fountain was built 30 years ago - from 1732 to 1792. The structure adjoins the facade of Pali Pali. The regal palace facade, combined with a baroque fountain, creates a terrific duo, which is now perceived as a whole.

The installation of the fountain can be compared with a picture in the center of which is the Ocean. He leaves the central niche of the palace on a sea shell, which is heavily pulled by newts and hippocamps. This scene is similar to how the earthly kings carry on the chariots the most powerful and majestic horses. In the niches of the facade, along the sides of Neptune, allegorical figures are placed, and above them are bas-reliefs. On the right is a young beautiful girl, pointing tired soldiers to a source of drinking water. From the source, an aqueduct was laid, which pumps water to Rome.

The people of Trevi are called "The Fountain of Love", but not because of their plot, but because of the belief that if you throw one coin in it, then you will return to Rome, two - a love meeting will soon take place , three - marriage, four - wealth, and five - separation. This kind of "witchcraft" of tourists in Rome with the help of the Fontana of Love brings to the public services an annual profit of about 700,000 euros.

Fountain of Turtles

The Turtle Fountain in Rome was created in 1659 and is part of a group of 18 fountains that were built to provide urban residents with drinking water. The author of the project was the architect Giacomo Porta, and the sculptor - Taddeo Landini. Together, two talented creators were able to create a stunning pedestal, which at different times gave different meanings. Some associated the fountain with the myth of Jupiter and Ganymede, while others said that the tandem of turtles and dolphins propagated the motto "Hurry slowly". It's hard to say what the creators attributed to the pedestal, but the fountain became one of the most important in Rome - that's for sure.

The very same structure is a four bronze turtles that creep on the upper bowl of the fountain, at the bottom of them they support beautiful young men who sit on dolphins. Sculptures are made in the classical Renaissance style.

Fountain of the Four Rivers

One of the most famous fountains in Rome is the Fountain of the Four Rivers. Its construction lasted 3 years and was completed in 1651, the projector was made by Bernini. The history of this fountain is rather unusual. In 1644, the Pope of the Pamphili family wanted to build an Egyptian obelisk next to the family palace, and he announced a competition for the best project. Because of the cunning and meanness of his envious, the talented Bernini did not get the opportunity to participate. But he did not despair and prepared a project of a fountain, which was an obelisk and four statues around it, depicting the gods of the main rivers of the four parts of the world:

Bernini had a patron who was married to the niece of the Pope. It was this circumstance that became decisive. Dad's son-in-law, Ludovisi, put up a mock-up of the fountain in the dining room where he had dined. The governor was so delighted with the project, its harmony and beauty that immediately canceled the competition and ordered Bernini to implement the project.

Fountain "Triton"

The fountain "Triton" was built in Rome also on the project of the great Giovanni Bernini. Its construction was completed in 1642, and the customer was made by Pope Urban VIII. Triton is the son of Poseidon, it is he who has the main role in the pedestal.

The fountain's plot on one side is simple, and on the other - exquisite. The pedestal consists of four dolphins, which with their tails support one large shell. On its open doors is a statue of Triton, and it blows a jet of water from the sink - thus filling the fountain bowl.
