Facade paint

Many homeowners want the facade of their house to look bright and unusual. The best assistant in this is the facade paint. It is capable of giving the building a smart fresh look and at the same time protecting the walls from the effects of the external environment. But keep in mind that, depending on the type of paint, its properties and quantity of consumable material will change. So, how to choose a façade paint for outdoor works? About this below.

Basic properties

All paints are subdivided according to the type of binder, vapor permeability, resistance to abrasion and a number of other properties. Let's talk about each of these qualities in more detail.

  1. Binders . As a rule, vinyl, silicone and acrylic resins act as binders, but it can also be lime, potassium glass or cement. In cheap paints, instead of the binder, there are auxiliary fillers that do not perform any function and only increase the volume. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that the information on binders will be genuine, since everything depends only on the honesty of the manufacturer. In this regard, we recommend that you trust trusted brands that have successfully proven themselves in the market.
  2. Water vapor permeability . This is the ability of the paint to not prevent the separation of steam from the walls of the building. The vapor permeability is indicated in grams of water, which permeate through 1 m & sup2 surface during the day. The higher this index, the better this property. The ideal value of vapor permeability for facade paint is 130 g / m2 / sup2 / 24 hours. Some brands use Sd for this. Here, on the contrary: the smaller it is, the property of letting moisture out is higher. From this point of view, the optimal value is 0.11-0.05 m.
  3. Consumption . The flow characteristics are from 5 to 13 l / m & sup2 per one layer. This indicator affects the texture of the facade, which you need to paint. To apply facade paint to a smooth base, less than a liter is used, rather than a rough rough surface.
  4. Water permeability . A high-quality paint creates a strong layer, which protects the wall from moisture penetration. Due to this, salt is not deposited on the walls of the building, plaster is firmly held, mold does not develop. Good water permeability has a paint with a coefficient of 0.05 kg / m & sup2 Please note: the lower this value, the more waterproof will be the paint layer.

Types of paints

The most popular is the classification of paints by the type of surface. Here you can select the following types:

  1. Facade paint on wood . It is used for painting country houses, garden arbors, log fronts, fences, rafters and even interior walls. It is made on the basis of dispersion and silicate dyes. The facade of the building, covered with such a paint, is not prone to rot and the appearance of fungus. The most popular shades are brown , green, blue and beige.
  2. Textured facade paint . It forms a strong coating, so it is used for painting facades that are subjected to high loads (socle parts of houses, garages, polyclinics and sports complexes). The structure includes rigid particles, which are responsible for creating a unique texture. Structural facade paint is applied with a structural roller, a sponge or a comb.
  3. Paint for concrete surfaces . Here you can use silicate, latex and acrylic compounds.
  4. It should be noted that the color of the paint can be chosen by itself, by means of a collation. If you need a facade white paint, you can simply purchase a non-tinted composition.
