Scalarians are one of the most popular aquarium fish. Interesting coloring, unusual body structure and, in addition, a fairly good compatibility of the scalars with other fish make them very attractive pets. It is about the latter and I would like to talk today.
Scalari live well with virtually all peace-loving fish. But with some species only theoretically compatible, in practice the picture is somewhat different. So let's look in more detail a few examples of a possible neighborhood.
Scalaria and barbs
Fish barbs are relatively non-aggressive, very mobile and fast. Such a fuss is not particularly like a rather sluggish scalar. In addition, having mastered, the barbs may well be interested in the long, attractive fins of the scalars and thoroughly pat them. Especially black and Sumatran barbs are inclined to such hooliganism. But if all the fish are bought simultaneously and from an early age live in the same aquarium, then a peaceful neighborhood is quite possible. Another important factor here is the volume of your aquarium: if there is enough space, algae and nooks, then, most likely, these species of fish will not be particularly interested in each other.
Scalaria and goldfish
And the scaly and goldfish are very popular among aquarists, but that's why keeping them together will not work for several reasons:
- goldfish prefer cooler water than scalar;
- Scalarians are very demanding on the purity of water, and gold very quickly pollute it;
- these fish have different characters, and grown-up scalars can greatly spoil the fins of goldfish.
Scalaria and discus
These two types of aquarium fish will become very good neighbors. Scalarias and discus have similar conditions of content and preferences in food: both species are prone to overeating, so we must strictly monitor the quantity and quality of feed. In addition, in discus similar to the "crescent" of the scalar is a flat disc-shaped body and it is also very problematic for them to collect food from the bottom. So the discus, like the scalars, will be happy with the special feeder. The only condition is the presence of a large aquarium, since the discus is a schooling fish, it is better to keep them for 5-6 individuals, and adult scalars have decent sizes and love space.
Scalarias and other fish
Guppies are smaller in size than scalars , and therefore they are not the best neighbors for large neighbors. After all, the scalars tend to perceive the fish less than themselves as food and can easily swallow all the guppies.
Sword-bearers and scalaries can get on quite peacefully with each other, if the sword-bearers are not much interested in the long fins of the scalars. For a greater guarantee of peaceful coexistence, it is advisable to keep them together from an early age.
Scalarias and males are also quite a good option of neighborhood. Usually these species of fish live by themselves, not paying much attention to the neighbors. Petushki will rather shit between themselves (especially males) than with the scalars. However, during spawning, scalars can become too aggressive,
Scalarians are quite friendly fish, but there are a number of exceptions that must be taken into account so that none of your pets are harmed. And one of the basic conditions regarding all compatibility options is the aquarium of the required volume. Even for 1-2 pairs of scalars, an aquarium with a volume of 60 liters is needed, and taking into account the neighbors, this figure is significantly increased. This must be remembered when deciding on the choice of fish.
