In translation from English, Tru means "truth". This name the girl received in honor of her great-grandfather on the maternal line, whose name was True Otis Houghton.
Kardashian also reported the name, date of birth, height and weight of the newborn on her website, stating:
"Tru Thompson was born on April 12, 2018, 6 pounds, 13 ounces, 21 inches. The proud parents are Tristan Thompson and Chloe Kardashian. "
