Biography of Karl Lagerfeld

According to many sources, Karl Lagerfeld was born on September 10, 1933 in Hamburg, although the maestro himself claims that he was born somewhere between 1933 and 1938 and once even promised to provide documents that would confirm his words.

When Lagerfeld turned 14 years old, he moved with his family to Paris, where he entered the School of High Fashion. In 1954, the International Wool Secretariat organized a competition in which Carl took second place for the design of the women's coat, giving way to the first Yves Saint Laurent. After that the young Lagerfeld was hired by Pierre Balmain as assistant, where he worked for the next 4 years.

The first collection of Karl Lagerfeld, published under the name Roland Karl in 1958, failed miserably - the press did not like the deep neckline of the dresses and frank cutouts on the back. But after six months, already at the presentation of the second collection of couturiers, the press applauded standing.

After 4 years of work in the house of Pierre Balmain, Carl was invited to Jean Patu as art director, but he did not stay long there either.

In the early 60's, the designer, disappointed in fashion, left Paris for Italy to learn the history of art. There the couturier decided to work for himself and became an independent designer, developing seasonal collections for famous fashion houses - Charles Laurdan, Chloe, Krizia and Fendi.

In 1974 Carl Otto Lagerfeld released his first line of men's clothing Karl Lagerfeld Impression, and then at the invitation of friends he began to teach at the Vienna School of Applied Arts as a professor.

In the early 80's, Karl introduced mini skirts into fashion, and short skirts later, but he gained real popularity only 3 years later, when the owners of Chanel House invited him to the post of art director of the brand. It was then that Karl Lagerfeld created his first haute couture clothing line, and then pret-a-porter under the logo of the famous brand. And in parallel he developed his own collections for KL and KL by Karl Lagerfeld.

In the 80s, the famous brand Chanel was forged much more often than any other in the history of fashion, but Lagerfeld managed to change the image of the fashion house and attract new customers. For his collection for Chanel Carl in 1993 received the prestigious design award "Golden Thimble". And already in the late 90's it was believed that the style of the brand, offered by Lagerfeld, becomes much closer to Chanel than it was before him.

Personal life of Karl Lagerfeld

The personal life of Karl Lagerfeld is carefully guarded by the fashion designer. Someone considers him to be a representative of a non-traditional orientation, mainly because of his attachment to the best friend - Jacques De Bashrer, after whose death, the designer does not support the same close relations with anyone. Someone, on the contrary, is sure that he is crazy about women, because he creates his luxurious masterpieces for them.

Karl Lagerfeld himself always answers all questions concerning his personal life with the favorite phrase: "My love in the grave - and this is all over . " Karl Lagerfeld believes that at his age to put his personal life on the show is simply indecent. Therefore, for all of us, Karl's personal life is still behind a dark, absolutely impenetrable screen.

The main secret of Karl Lagerfeld's success is undoubtedly his fanaticism in work and incommensurable talent. He never stops at what has been achieved, discovering new opportunities and horizons, and only he knows how to turn grayness and ordinary life around him into a real fashion.
