Breeding of discus

Breeding discus requires certain conditions. This applies to the temperature and acidity of the water in the aquarium, and the separation of the formed pair, and the preservation of eggs and fry.

How to breed discus?

  1. Spawning discus must be held in a specially designated aquarium, or spawning, with a volume of at least 100 liters. It is believed that from 6-8 discus can form at least one pair. You will notice this from the behavior of the fish.
  2. Reproduction of discus is impossible if the spawning is not suitable conditions. The water temperature should be at + 29-30 ° C, the acidity of the pH at the level of 6-6.5. Do not forget about changing the water daily in small portions. Avoid bright light and loud noise during spawning.
  3. After seclusion in a quiet place of the aquarium, the male takes care of the female, then she starts to spawn. It is recommended to put a flat stone or a flower pot on the bottom of the aquarium in order to facilitate the task of the female. The number of eggs is on the average 100-150 pieces.
  4. Caviar of discus is in the incubation period 1-2 days, then larvae hatch from them. After 2-3 days of waiting in the aquarium appear fry discus.
  5. At first, the fry eat the secretory secretions of their parents, just swim to them. That is why it is not recommended immediately after the appearance of the fry to plant their parents.
  6. After about 8 days, the fry are ready to eat a chopped tubular and cyclops.

Do not forget about the proper nutrition of the parent fish during spawning. Feed them in small portions so that no food remains on the bottom. However, do not give too little food, because fish can eat their eggs.

Typically, its maximum size fish discus dials to 12 months, and spawning becomes ready in 2 years.
