Blue Mountains (Jamaica)

One of the brightest natural attractions of Jamaica are the Blue Mountains (Blue Mountains). This is the largest mountain network in Jamaica , stretching for 45 km in the eastern part of the island. The name arose from the fog of a blue hue, which seems to envelop the peaks and bottom of the mountains.

general information

The highest point of the Blue Mountains of Jamaica is the peak of Blue Mountain Peak (Blue Mountain Peak), which rises at 2256 meters above sea level. To make it more convenient to admire the view from the top, an observation deck was set up here, which in clear weather you can see not only the whole of Jamaica, but also neighboring Cuba.

National Park

The blue mountains of Jamaica are part of the national park of the same name, which was opened in 1992. The park is an environmental object of the state, as rare plants grow here and endangered species of animals can be found. The most exotic representatives of the park's fauna are giant butterflies, black birds, large marmots, and among the flora there is Jamaican hibiscus, a huge number of endemic species of flowers and trees that do not grow anywhere except in Jamaica.

Blue mountain coffee

Great coffee lovers certainly know the name of Blue Mountain Coffee. This sort of coffee is grown at the foot of the Blue Mountains of Jamaica and is considered the most high-growth in the world. In addition, gourmets note the delicate flavor of the drink and the taste without bitterness, which is not surprising, because it grows in ideal conditions - fertile soil, bright sun and clean mountain air.

How to get there?

To get to the top of the mountain you can walk on special hiking trails, by bicycle (part of the way), or by car as part of a tourist group. Walking takes about 7 hours, a trip by car - just over an hour.
