Backlight for seedlings

Experienced truck farmers know that seedlings grown at home need to be lightened up. Even if you place boxes with seedlings on the lightest windowsill, they still will not be short of the length of the light day (after all, such work is usually done in early spring). Is it worth talking about situations when you have a lot of seedlings and does not fit on the windowsills?

It's no secret that young shoots of vegetables from the lack of light become elongated and faded, grow worse and slower. To prevent this from happening with your seedlings, you should use lamps to illuminate it. But how to set them at the correct height? Of course, all sorts of modern tripods and even entire shelving for seedlings with illumination are on sale. But the period of their use is short enough, and such a purchase is tangibly cost-effective. Therefore, we will try to make lighting for young plants with the help of improvised means.

How to make a highlight for seedlings?

It is not difficult to make a highlight yourself:

  1. First of all, you need to find a suitable lamp. Typically, to make the backlight, they take LED or fluorescent lamps. Ideally, you need to use modern energy-saving light bulbs, special phyto-lamps or such a fluorescent tube.
  2. To fix the lighting fixture, we prepare two wooden slats or ordinary sticks. One of them cut in half.
  3. To install them on the floor, we use two 3-liter jars filled with earth, which remained after the landing.
  4. Two short sticks should be well strengthened in the ground.
  5. Set the jars on the floor, the table or the windowsill, depending on where your seedling is.
  6. Next, we will use several plastic clamps.
  7. With their help we connect the places of perpendicular intersection of sticks.
  8. As a result, our tripod stand for seedlings, made by own hands, will look like the letter "P".
  9. Lamp on it can also be fixed with clamps, if it does not provide other fastenings. Adjust the distance from the seedlings to the light source, given that the seedlings will grow very quickly in height.
  10. To ensure that the cord does not interfere with watering or picking seedling, it can also be tied to vertical guides.
  11. We cut the ends of the clamps using side cutters.
  12. That's in such a simple way, and most importantly - without extra costs, we set up our own lights for room seedlings.
