Aso-Kuju

On the island of Kyushu is the national park of Japan Aso-Kuju. Its name was due to the fact that on its territory there is a highland called Kuju and the active volcano Aso. The year of creation of this island is 1934.

What is interesting about Aso-Kuju?

Mountainous region of Aso with beautiful landscapes was formed in ancient times as a result of the activity of the volcano . During the strongest eruption, the walls of the crater collapsed and an active volcanic caldera was formed - a domed boiler with steep walls and a relatively flat bottom.

Mount Kuju, towering 1887 meters above sea level, is considered the highest point in Kyushu. The Aso mountain range is located in the center of the national park and consists of five peaks, the highest of which rises to 1592 m. The Nakadake peak is the active volcano that erupted for the last time in 1979. It still periodically smokes and spits out clots of ash. Many travelers come here to climb to the top of the volcano, to which the cable car leads. However, sometimes trips to the crater are prohibited because of strong sulfur emissions, which can be dangerous for people with breathing problems.

Nearby to the volcano Asosan there is a museum of the same name. Here you can see photographs of this geological fault made from outer space, as well as see the Nakadake crater from the inside. For this purpose, special video cameras were installed on the mountain. Next to the museum of Aso is the plain Kusasenri with the extinct volcano Kamezuka, called the Japanese "a handful of rice."

In the territory of the park Aso-Kuju there is a resort with hot springs . All the mountains are covered with dense forests, and on the plains at the foot of the hills there are numerous lakes with pure blue-green water. Only on the mountains of Aso-Kuju grows a bright wild azalea of Kirimis. If you want to bring souvenirs from a trip to Aso-Kuju, then they can be purchased in souvenir shops located at the foot of Mount Nakadake. There are also several restaurants serving Japanese cuisine .

How to get to Aso-Kuju?

The territory of the Japanese national park Aso-Kuju can be reached by bus routes "Aso" and "Kuju", which regularly run from Kumamoto to the volcano. From this city to the Aso Massif, you can also take the train to Aso Station, and then take the bus to the cable car.
