Archipelago World

4 km from the coast of Dubai , in the Persian Gulf there is an artificial archipelago Mir or The World. It consists of 33 islands, the general outlines of which resemble contours of terrestrial continents. The idea of creating World Islands belongs to the Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum. The main developer is the company company Nakheel.

The History of The World

Since the middle of the twentieth century, Dubai has gradually become a very popular tourist city. However, its coast by 1999 was completely built up, and there were no empty places for the beaches. That's why the idea of creating the World Archipelago in Dubai appeared, which can be seen in the photo.

At first it was decided to create 7 islands in the form of continents, which it was planned to sell to wealthy people. However, soon the creators of the World Islands realized that hardly anyone would buy such large areas of land. Therefore, we decided to divide these islands into smaller ones. The World project is interesting because every interested investor can buy any part of the "Earth" and equip it at will by creating a nature reserve or a resort, a complex of palaces or ranches, villas with golf courses, etc.

Construction of World Islands in Dubai

Since the entire coastline of Dubai has already been built up, it was decided to create bulk islands at 4 km from the coast of the city. During construction, the most advanced Japanese and Norwegian technologies were used, and all materials were delivered only by sea. Sand was scooped from the bottom of the Persian Gulf and sprayed over the future islands. However, the waves constantly blurred the mounds. To counter this, the creators decided to build a dam in the form of a durable breakwater - a wall of a stepped pyramidal shape, reinforced with 6-ton boulders.

"Dubai" is the first island that appeared above the surface of the water in 2004. Later appeared "Middle East", "Asia", "North America". In 2005, 15 million tons of stones were loaded into the bay. However, then a problem arose before the builders: the stagnation of water, which, with the expansion of construction, could turn into a swamp. In addition, there was no current between the islands. But the engineering thought did not stand still: to avoid serious danger, special blades were made for the surrounding nature on breakwaters, which dispersed water, causing it to circulate.

The total area of all man-made islands included in The World is 55 square meters. km. This world's largest artificial archipelago consists of many islands, many of which have already been redeemed:
