2 people X 20 years = houseboat

Many of us in different periods of life think about abandoning everything, abandoning the worldly vanity and seclusion in a remote place, far from civilization ...

Such thoughts come to many people, but a new day comes, and we again hurry to work in crowded transport, stand in traffic jams and look forward to the weekend, so that after a few days off, start again from the beginning.

But one desperate Canadian couple decided to realize what many people are dreaming of, and achieved amazing results.

1. Far from civilization

When Wayne and his girlfriend Catherine decided to hide from the world, they decided to equip their shelter with taste. After a little more than 20 years of hard work, they managed to build a whole estate in a remote corner of Canada. What they have, goes beyond the ordinary house.

2. Restless move

In the distant 1992 Wayne Adams and Catherine King came to the conclusion that they could no longer live in a big city, and decided on a daring move. They left noisy city streets without regret and plunged into the thicket of Canadian forests.

3. Life in the wilderness

Wayne and Catherine, now 68 and 60 respectively, decided to build their new home near to Tofino in British Columbia, the westernmost province of Canada. Tofino, located on the west coast of Vancouver Island, is a fairly remote town with a population of less than 2,000 people, but this courageous couple decided to go further - they thought of something even more extreme.

4. Multi-colored residence

In a secluded corner outside the city limits, they began to build an impressive autonomous structure on the water. Today, more than 20 years later, their drifting house is an unimaginable multi-colored palace.

5. Idyll

Their sanctuary, they aptly called the "Bay of Freedom", consisting of 12 separate platforms, connected by paths. On board this floating Eden Wayne and Catherine can lead a self-sufficient life, everything here breathes peace and tranquility.

6. Life on the water

In the summer months, they take water from the nearest waterfall, and in winter rely on rain. Their needs for electricity they satisfy through solar panels. Interestingly, they also collected the generators manually.

7. Natural Products

Wayne and Catherine produce food themselves. They have more than 20 acres of land and five large greenhouses in which they grow fruits and vegetables.

8. Some interesting additional buildings

To their drifting island, they added individualities, having built a beautiful art gallery, a lighthouse and even a dance floor in addition to living quarters and greenhouses.

9. Specialist of a wide profile

The construction and care of such an unusual structure requires certain knowledge and skills. Adams is a professional wood carver, he himself made all the wooden structures. He also makes his living by his magnificent wooden masterpieces, examples of which can be seen all over the island.

10. Proof of Excellence

At the same time, his companion, Katherine King - a former ballerina who successfully turned into a wonderful gardener, watches a huge garden and greenhouses. She also enjoys painting and music, so that their majestic house is a vivid example of their joint creativity.

11. Acquiring new skills

Being among the trees, in an atmosphere of creativity, Catherine soon herself mastered the art of woodcarving. At first, she was the apprentice of her friend, and then gradually mastered the skill and acquired her own style, so now her works are sold along with Wayne's samples.

12. The Last Inspiration

"Life in the bosom of nature has a permanent creative upsurge," Catherine said in an interview. "It's incredible, waking up every day, to see all this beauty. Just imagine life without the constant stress and anxiety inherent in city vanity. "

13. The charm of life in nature

Living away from people, these two live side by side with the fascinating world of wildlife. Not far away, deer walk, otters swim, sea birds fly and even wolves are found.

14. Intruders

However, with some representatives of the animal world, the inhabitants of the "Bay of Freedom" would prefer not to collide. They are forced to wage a real war with huge water rats, which can reach 13 kg. Once these monsters even gnawed the foundation of the houseboat.

15. Domestic animals

At the same time, for livestock and poultry, a stay in the wild was a nightmare. Wayne and Catherine decided to somehow breed chickens, but soon they had to abandon this idea when they realized how many still wanting to eat around the chickens. Therefore, they settled on a vegetarian diet, and are happy to eat fully natural products grown in their own garden.

16. Special style of life

"We have achieved much, we have experienced a lot, so we were ready for the fact that life here will be completely different, but it suits us," Adams said in his interview.

17. Tourist attraction

Despite the remote and inaccessible location, the floating house has become a local tourist attraction, and Wayne and Catherine are happy to receive guests. Tour operators even began to complement walks on whale watching and brown bears by visiting the "Bay of Freedom".

18. News of the day

When the message about an unusual family from the remote Canadian outback hit the Internet, everything turned upside down. The history of the inhabitants of the houseboat did not leave the pages of magazines around the world, which added to their efforts.

19. Perfect childhood

"This whole huge house is for our children, so that they see here something that they will not be taught in school," Adams says. "When I was in school, we were taught only different skills and abilities."

Apparently, the children of this couple had such a childhood, which many of us did not even dream of.

20. The project continues

The most surprising thing is that the construction of this unusual object is not finished yet. Each year, Adams and King add additional buildings. Perhaps, in 20 years the "Bay of Freedom" will change beyond recognition.
