Zoo Raghunan is a favorite place for recreation of local residents and tourists. It is located in the southern part of Jakarta and occupies a vast territory. Here live more than 5 thousand species of animals and 200 plants. In the 19th century, the Indonesian painter Raden Saleh created a nursery for wounded animals in the center of the capital, and later he turned into an impressive zoo. Currently, most of the fauna of the zoo are amazing animals of Indonesia . Many of them are on the verge of extinction.
Territory
Zoo Raghunan in Jakarta occupies 140 hectares. On the territory there are sculptures of various animals, a fountain in the form of a chimpanzee and an arch, on the sides of which there are two dinosaurs. Throughout the park grow tropical plants and huge palm trees. In the eastern part there is a river where hippos and crocodiles live. In some open places, workers created savanna conditions.
What animals can be found in the zoo?
The Raghunan Zoo is home to:
- Mammals. These are several species of macaques, chimpanzees, gibbons, orangutans. Here you can find Javanese porcupine, bats, tapirs, antelopes, musangs, binturongs, Arabian oryx and other animals, about the existence of which you could not even guess before. On the territory of the zoo there is a dying Bengal tiger and a Malay bear.
- Reptiles. For poisonous and non-venomous snakes in the zoo created two different terrariums. For crocodiles and gavians there is a special wetland, and a predatory Komodo monitor lives on a separate territory. Along with the royal cobra, more than a dozen species of turtles coexist in the zoo.
- Birds. Emus emus and cassowary live in separate enclosures. A pond with swans and pelicans is located near the entrance. In cages on the territory of the zoo live birds-rhinoceroses, pigeons, black cockatoo, Javan peacock, pheasants and parrots.
Entertainment
On the territory of the Ragunan zoo there is a children's playground, carousels and a cafe. Employees of the zoo hold Sunday activities for children and adults, including elephant riding. In one part of the park there is a special recreation area. Locals like to come here early in the morning or in the evening for practicing yoga. Anyone can join them. Among other entertainment tourists can:
- to ride on boats in the form of swans;
- rent a bicycle;
- look at parrots who know how to play football or smart otters who can count.

The zoo is located about 20 km from the center of Jakarta . You can reach it by buses №№77 and S605A from Terminal Ragunan, Jl. Harsona RM.
