What are the sizes of the uterus in the early stages of pregnancy?

Change in the uterus in size begins to occur literally from 4-6 weeks after fertilization. First of all, its anteroposterior size changes, and then the transverse one. As a result, the uterine body is transformed from a pear-shaped form into a spherical form.

If we speak directly about the size of this organ, then their change proceeds as follows:

• 4 week - uterus with chicken egg;
• 12th week - goose egg;
• Week 16 - the size of the uterus is comparable to the size of a male fist.

As a rule, the change in the uterus in the early stages of pregnancy occurs fairly quickly.

What changes occur with the cervix?

Normally, the body of the uterus softens somewhat with the onset of pregnancy. However, the neck itself retains its density. As for the actual position of the cervix in the early stages of pregnancy, there is an easy mobility of this area. This is due to softening of the isthmus itself.

At the same time, the uterus itself is soft at the early stages of pregnancy, which is determined by a bimanual examination at week 6. With this kind of manipulation, the doctor enters the index and middle fingers of one hand into the vagina, the second probes the uterus through the anterior abdominal wall. It is with the help of this procedure that doctors often confirm the fact of pregnancy before the ultrasound.
