The Lope de Vega Museum

Madrid is certainly a beautiful city and the largest cultural center of Western Europe. But, despite the scale of its grandiose monuments of history, palaces, squares and parks, many tourists are always pleased to relax from noisy sightseeing tours and metro, stroll through the small streets of the old city, where there is something to see. One of such sights of silence is one of the best museums in Madrid - the museum of the famous author Lope de Vega (Casa Museo Lope de Vega, Madrid).

The drama house-museum is carefully preserved in almost unchanged form and conveys the mood of the era of the Golden Age, in which the Spanish poet lived and wrote. According to historical reports, after traveling to Spain, in 1610 Lope de Vega returned to his native Madrid, bought a modest house and lived there for a quarter of a century until his old age and death (August 26, 1635). Inside the playwright's home you can see the furniture and furniture of the rooms (paintings, lamps, dishes), the office of the beloved comediographer Lope de Vega, in which famous works, family libraries and originals of some manuscripts, daughters' rooms, a drawing room and even a personal family one were born. The facade of the house is decorated with the family coat of arms of Parva Propia Magna / Magna Aliena Parva, which means "my little is great, a great stranger is not enough."

Behind the house in the courtyard, in addition to the old well, was a home garden, a fence behind which were kept domesticated birds and animals, a small garden was broken up. Lope de Vega liked to spend time in it, plant plants and take care of the flower garden. All this is also available for visits to tourists.

It is for sure known about the great friendship of the poet with the writer Miguel de Cervantes - the author of the great novel The Cunning Hidalgo Don Quixote of La Mancha, whose monument to the heroes is also located in the heart of the Spanish capital, in the Plaza of Spain .

On the very eve of World War II, in 1935, the house was recognized as the object of the Historic Heritage of Spain, and thirty years later it survived a great restoration of the architect Fernando Chueca Goya and restored its original appearance. This is one of the few complete samples of the way of the Spanish family of the late 16th century.

Currently, the house museum is on the balance sheet of the Spanish Royal Academy and is the property of the García Cabrejo Foundation.
