Substrate under parquet

Without a good accompanying material in the form of a substrate, your parquet will serve much less, differing in poor thermal insulation and sound insulation. To solve such problems, many kinds of materials have been invented today, which are laid in the form of an intermediate layer between the base and the floor covering . Our small survey will not be able to cover all the nuances of this problem, but it helps to determine the inexperienced buyer, who was stumped by a wide range of construction market.

Types of substrate for parquet

  1. Foamed polyethylene substrate. Foamed polyethylene is able to slightly level the floor and reduce heat loss. In addition, this synthetics is not afraid of water, it can well reduce noise in the room. The downside of the foam polyethylene substrate is the relatively short life and fragility of this material.
  2. Cork substrate for parquet. It turned out that the cork oak bark is great for producing a substrate for parquet. Such material does not contain chemistry and is very durable at the same time. If you are dealing with a fresh screed, it is better to use a waterproofing in the form of a polyethylene film paired with a cork, which is placed from the bottom.
  3. Foiled substrates (Isolon). The thin metal layer of the foil covered with foamed polyethylene greatly improves the characteristics of Isolon. It is able to additionally reflect up to 30% of the heat, not letting it out. It is very good to use this substrate with the equipment of the warm floor. Izolon has good resistance to moisture, mold and fungi.
  4. Multilayer materials for a substrate type Tuplex. Here we are dealing with a complex system of 3 layers. From below is a porous film. Next come the styrene balls, which need a fraction of softening and thermal insulation, and we have polyethylene on top. Small up to 4 mm unevenness to you with a substrate of the Tuplex are not terrible. In addition, it retains moisture and takes it out naturally.
  5. Bitumen-cork substrate for parquet. For the production of this material, kraft paper, bitumen and cork are used, which covers the outer layer of the substrate. This "cake" keeps the moisture well and is a good isolator of the room from noise. Lay the bitumen-cork substrate with a stopper down.
