Ridley Scott: "I have not worked a day in my life and do not focus on problems!"

"The main thing in life is to do what you love!", Admits Ridley Scott and does not disingenuate. Whatever he does, from everything he enjoys, whether it's shooting a new painting or just drawing in his spare time. The positive attitude of the master is always passed to the viewer and the premiere of the film "All the World's Money" is another confirmation of this.

The film was based on a real story about the kidnapping of grandson Paul Getty, American billionaire industrialist. Initially, the main role was approved by Kevin Spacey, who starred in the first version of the picture. However, after the scandal about sexual harassment in Hollywood related to Spacey, the director decided to reshoot the film and successfully did it in the shortest possible time. The shooting of the new version of "All the World's Money" took only 9 days. Paul Getty was played by Christopher Plummer, who later won an Oscar nomination for this role.

Any difficulty is a challenge

Ridley Scott does not hide that he enthusiastically accepts any challenge, this time - emergency changes to the shooting process:

"I always gladly accept the challenge. I like the feeling of dealing with obstacles. It all began with Harvey Weinstein and now Kevin Spacey also touched. After the first loud statements, I immediately realized that there will be a serious purge in the film studios, it's time to put an end to this disgrace in Hollywood, which has lasted for many years. Dan Friedkin is a great person and producer, we are connected by good relations. Almost the whole picture he paid, moreover, he convinced me to shoot it and the whole filming process was close. I could not allow his works and investments to go into emptiness. And when I said that I wanted to re-shoot the film, he was not outraged, and, being sure that I will succeed, I only asked how much it would cost. But it did not take a dollar for the retakes, all the actors returned and worked for free. I took it for a good sign and I was not mistaken, everything went smoothly and we met within nine days. There was no need to make any drastic changes, the film was so perfect. Perhaps it sounds immodest, but this is a real assessment of my work. "

Billionaires - a rarity of the 70's

The director told about his acquaintance with Paul Getty's son and about how the history of kidnapping was perceived at that time by the society:

"There are a lot of billionaires in the world today, and the state of many of them is sky-high. But in the distant 60-70s there were not so many rich people like that, and, of course, Getty immediately became incredibly famous. Unfortunately, his popularity was overshadowed by this tragic kidnapping of his grandson. Many then wondered how he could solve everything through the press. He was well aware that the government would not make concessions, and would not talk to terrorists. We needed an alternative. At that time I worked as a director and producer on the BBC, the company paid very little, I left and founded my own. I shot advertising, and it brought a good income. I once worked with Balthasar, the son of Paul Getty III, in the movie "White Flurry". And after a lapse of fifteen years, I once met with him in a restaurant, and he offered to introduce me to his father. Paul Getty III was paralyzed and lived with his mother Gail Getty, who in my film is played by Michelle Williams. Gail is 82 years old. By the way, she watched the film and expressed her approval. "

Age of creativity is not an edict

Ridley Scott 80 and he is full of ideas and plans for the future. The director of "Alien" holds his hand on the pulse and watches with interest the latest novelties in the world of cinema:

"Of course, I always know what's new in the cinema. Always with interest I watch new good movies. Of the latter, I can mention Spielberg's paintings "The Secret Dossier" and Calvin's "Water". I also did not sit idle and in 2017 I released "Alien: Testament", became a producer of "Blade Runner 2049". As for the "Alien", I think that its evolution is inevitable. Yes, I'm 80, but I do not look back on past mistakes and, especially, do not get hung up on them. I do not have the habit of analyzing what has already happened. I always try to remember only the joyful moments from which I enjoyed myself. And I believe that I have not worked a day in my life. That's what I do, the most beloved in my life. "
