Plum "Nizhegorodskaya"

Travel plum across Russia began from the middle of the 17th century, when, at the behest of the king, the first seedlings were brought into the country. Since then, and to this day, active selection work is being conducted, as a result of which new varieties are emerging. About one of them - the plum sort "Nizhegorodskaya" we'll talk today.

Plum "Nizhegorodskaya" - description of the variety, winter hardiness

This variety was born in the Nizhny Novgorod State Agricultural Academy at the end of the last century. After the end of the tests in 2008, it was registered in the variety register of the Volga-Vyatka region. "Nizhny Novgorod" domestic plum refers to varieties of late maturity, reaching ripeness by the end of August - beginning of September. Plum trees "Nizhegorodskaya" grow very fast, their height can exceed 3-4 meters. Crown is unblown, raised. At especially plentiful crops some branches in a crown can be fractured, not sustaining gravity of fruits. But this should not be frightened, since the crown has the property to recover quickly enough. As a preventive measure, you can use different supports for the branches. At the time of fruiting, the variety enters 4-5 years after planting, but it is not uncommon for seedlings to blossom for 3 years. Pollinators "Nizhegorodskaya" do not require draining, as it has a high level of self-fertility. The fruits of this variety are medium in size (up to 30 grams), round in shape with a yellowish-red skin color. The pulp is juicy and very tender, has a pleasant sweet and sour taste. The bone from the pulp is separated with ease, which makes the plum "Nizhegorodskaya" particularly attractive for processing. The winter hardiness of the variety is high enough to tolerate the average Russian winter without special losses. Only in cases of particularly severe (-35 degrees or more) frost, partial freezing of shoots and kidneys is possible.
