Parquet board - how to choose?

Wooden parquet board is an expensive pleasure that not every average citizen can afford. It is made of an array of expensive wood species and is completely environmentally friendly. This is reflected in the cost of parquet, which is the highest among all floor coverings. Before choosing a parquet board, you should familiarize yourself with all the necessary criteria, starting with the type of wood, ending with the size and structure of the panels. More details about these and some other properties of the parquet will be described below.

Parquet Design

The main indicator of the beauty of the parquet board is the number of lamellas of the top layer. On it all models can be classified as follows:

  1. Parquet board 1-way . This model is also called Full Plank. The face layer consists of one row of slats, not divided into segments. This is an integral part of the massif, on it the beauty of the wood structure is clearly distinguished. Single-striped parquet board with a bevel looks stylish in the interior of the bedroom and hall.
  2. Two-lane parquet board . The top is made up of a pair of fitted dies, which can be solid or segmented. The board with the shortened lamellas is suitable for small rooms, and with elongated ones - for large areas. Panels from two segments are interesting to convey the structure of the tree and give the room a solemn appearance.
  3. Three-striped parquet board . Consists of three rows of lamellas, slightly offset in length. The drawing of this board is most often displayed on natural parquet and is quite bright and unusual. Great popularity was acquired by prints of a braid, a Christmas tree and a chess game.

Quality parameters

When choosing a parquet, pay attention to the maximum width indicator. It shows the strength of the joints. With a small coefficient, it is not recommended to place heavy objects in opposite corners or walls of the room, since the locks can disperse. Quality parquet should have a parameter of 15-17 meters.

In addition, pay attention to the parameter of the maximum allowable unevenness of the base. It shows the strength of the joining of the plank layers and the quality of the glue that was used. Ideally, this indicator should be +3 mm by 2 meters in length.

An important element of parquet design is the type of wood used. The most popular are the following options:

  1. Oak . This wood is considered ideal for the manufacture of parquet. It does not abrade and is not susceptible to changes in humidity and temperature. Natural brushed oak gives the parquet board a relief and emphasizes the structure of the tree, and a matt lacquered oak accentuates attention to the color of the parquet. It looks interesting parquet board with a touch of "white oak", which is obtained by coating the wood with white oil.
  2. Beech . Has quiet light colors, therefore suitable for small rooms. The hardness of the beech is Brinell higher than that of oak (3.8 against 3.7), but the stability index is very low (1 vs 4). This means that the beech parquet board with temperature / humidity drops may begin to deform. With it you need to try to maintain a constant microclimate in the room.
  3. Bamboo . Exotic material, which was used when overlapping floors. Light bamboo parquet board looks great in small rooms, as it significantly expands the room. When laying bamboo flooring it is important to monitor the direction of the fibers in the bar. They must be transverse or longitudinal. Combination is not allowed.
  4. Also in the range is presented parquet from cherry, walnut and maple . Depending on the type of wood, the parquet board can be gray, reddish or even golden orange.
