Kos - attractions

The magical, supposedly descended from the pages of ancient Greek myths, comfortably settled the island of Kos in the center of Dodecanese, near the island of Rhodes . The capital of the island, the eponymous town of Kos, is located on its north-eastern outskirts, very close to the coast of Turkey. Despite its small size even by Greek standards, the city of Kos attracts tourists with greenery of parks and gardens, magical sandy beaches stretching for several kilometers. Asklepion

The main architectural monument of the island of Kos, which is so proud of all its inhabitants - Asklepion. Asklepion of Kos is an ancient hospital, where, according to legends, healed skin diseases and other ills with the help of medicinal waters. It was built in 357 BC and was dedicated, like all other hospitals of the time, to the god of medicine Asclepius. It was here that the well-known Hippocrates treated, therefore Asklepion on Kos is called the Hippocratic Hospital. At present, tourists can see three levels of terraces, connected by monumental staircases. At the first level there was a medical school, where medical knowledge was accumulated and systematized. The second level was assigned to the temple of Apollo. It was at the second level that the healing process took place. At the third level was a temple, where only the elected had access.

Thermal sources

Being on the island of Kos, it is simply impossible not to visit the famous thermal springs. They are located 12 kilometers from the capital of the island and you can get to them both by bus, which regularly runs from the city, and on a bicycle. Whichever transport you use, the rest of the way (minutes 25-30) will have to pass along the rocks on foot. The thermal spring itself is a small bay, separated from the sea by boulders. The water temperature in it is about 40 degrees, and, settling on the boulders that frame it, one can get a rare pleasure: on the one hand - the warm water of the spring, and on the other - the cool sea. The water in the source has medicinal properties, but it is harmful for more than 30 minutes. Since the thermal springs of Kos are very popular with tourists, it is better to visit them in the morning, until there are so many people there. Very close to the sources there is a more or less equipped beach.

Aquapark

Traveling with the parents of children, no doubt indifferent is located on the island of Kos water park Lido. It is located 25 km from the capital and 5 km from the airport. Its area is 75,000 m2, and the total length of 11 slides exceeds 1,200 meters. The park is so rich in entertainment that everyone will like: both children and parents. Everyone will find an occupation to their liking, because there is something to choose from: a jacuzzi, a pool with artificial waves, a crazy river, a space ball. The water attractions in the park meet all European safety requirements, and the service is organized at the highest level.

Fortress of the Knights-Ioannites

Right on the embankment near the port of Kos is the fortress of the Knights-Ioannites, its main attraction, the construction of which was begun in the distant 15th century. The inner part of the fortress - the castle, was erected on the site of ancient buildings, as evidenced by the numerous remains of ancient columns and statues on its territory. Construction of the outer part of the fortress was completed already in the 16th century. Since the construction stretched for a century, in the decoration of the fortress, you can see a mixture of several styles.
