Jabot with my own hands

Zhabo appeared in the XVII century and was a detail of the men's wardrobe. Like everything that originally belonged exclusively to men, the jabot collar soon became an integral part of the female world. The popular accessory does not give way to its positions in the 21st century: John Galliano, Valentino, Chanel and other eminent fashion houses represent jabot as one of the main elements of their annual collections.

To understand how to sew a jabot, you need to imagine the design of such a collar. The jabot is a flowing ruffles of fabric or lace attached to one side of the fabric of a dress or blouse, and the other side is freely falling. If the strip of fabric used for the toad is straight, then the volume effect will be achieved through the formation of assemblies and stitching the tape in its assembled form.

How to cut jabots with soft waves?

Soft waves of rounded shapes are created using the pattern below. To create a voluminous jabot, it is necessary to cut several details by the width of the pattern. One side (shown in the figure as a stitching line) is attached to the blouse, and the other is secured with secret stitches so that the resulting collar does not hang.

The jabot of ribbons does not require a pattern, since ready tapes are used for its creation. The main thing is to fix them in such a way that the effect of a three-dimensional collar turns out. The ribbons are fastened with three-dimensional "loops" from the imaginary center or center line on the blouse. A ready collar is decorated with a brooch or an effective braid.

Jabot from lace

Especially popular is the recently removable collar-toad, which you can make with your own hands, for example, from lace. Since making a jabot from lace is slightly easier than cutting from a fabric, then creating such a lace accessory will take less time than patterning and sewing. You will need a wide lace, a thin lace ribbon with paillettes or beads in the middle, a thin ribbon of suitable color. Thin lace is located in the middle of a wide and stitched. Then the thin tape with a pin is passed through the lace so that it can be used to attach the resulting collar "accordion". The ends of the tape are tied in a bow.

The resulting jabot can be worn as a collar or as a necklace decoration.

Warm scarf with frill

One of the most popular variants of "insulated frill" is the scarf of a jabot. It can be made of a warm or thin fabric, and is suitable for both early autumn and cold weather.

It's much easier to make a scarf with your own hands than it might seem, especially if you do not knit a scarf, but make it out of fleece cloth or felt.

  1. To do this, you need to cut out a fleece piece of cloth of the necessary length and width. Usually choose the width of the scarf is not less than 20 cm, otherwise the folds will not look.
  2. Throughout the length of the resulting scarf, two parallel lines are drawn along which the line will pass. Ideally, all three parts of the scarf should be equal. So, if the width of the scarf is 21 cm, then the first line will pass at a distance of 7 cm from the edge of the fabric, and another 7 cm - the second line.
  3. On the lines drawn, you need to stretch the scarf with an elastic thread with the widest stitches that will allow you to install sewing machine mode. One end of the thread must be fixed, and the other must be of sufficient length to grasp it.
  4. After both lines are ready, it is necessary to pull those ends of threads that are free to fall down and not fixed, while the scarf will be assembled into a kind of "rubber band", that is, it will form a frill.
  5. At the last stage, a button or button is sewn, which will allow the jabot scarf to be fastened without a knot.

Jabot is one of the most popular elements of clothing, it is used both in everyday clothes and in creating models for high fashion. Making jabots with your own hands is a simple and quick way to decorate your wardrobe with a fashion accessory or to transform an old blouse.
