So, the average citizen firmly believes that the Goths are pensive and somewhat gloomy girls and guys in black clothes who think about death and do not like active life, preferring listening to melancholy and frightening melodies, walking through cemeteries and reflections.

Gothic aesthetics actually contains a direct or indirect message to death. A distinctive feature of Gothic is not death as a fetish, but aspiration and passion for the idea of beauty of the abstract. This widens the boundaries of Gothic almost to infinity, allowing everyone to find in it something suitable for themselves. The first Goths sought to achieve their creative potential in a society that was incapable of understanding deep thoughts. Originally Goths - people highly intellectual and artistic, carried away by the idea of aesthetics in everything, but at the same time advocating sincere emotions. Among the willing highly appreciated individualism, the desire to follow one's own principles, the unwillingness to thoughtlessly inherit other people's ideas. Those who adopt only the external attributes of Gothic, not seeking to comprehend ideological ideas, are not popular among the ready. They are rather despised, considering as stupid clowns.

Despite the individualism of the subculture, there are still several signs of an external style ready:
- Gothic outfits are usually black with the addition of red, gray or white. Very often they are stylistically close to the clothes of the European Middle Ages;
