History of Nike

The history of Nike's creation began in 1964, when a student at the University of Oregon and part-time runner for short distances Phil Knight, together with his trainer Bill Bowerman, came up with a brilliant scheme for selling quality and inexpensive shoes. In the same year, Phil went to Japan, where he signed a contract with Onitsuka on the supply of sneakers to the US. The first sales were carried out directly on the street from the micro-van of Knight, and the office was a garage. Then the firm existed under the name Blue Ribbon Sports.

Soon, Phil and Bill were joined by a third person athlete and talented sales manager Jeff Johnson. Thanks to a special approach, he increased sales, and changed the name of the company to Nike, calling the company in honor of the winged goddess of victory.

In 1971, in the history of Nike, a significant event occurred - it is the development of a logo that is used today. "Roscherk" or the wing of the goddess Nike was invented by a student at the University of Portland - Carolina Davidson, who received a modest fee of just $ 30 for her creation.

Legendary innovations

In the history of the Nike brand, there are two ingenious inventions that have brought particular success and popularity to the brand. The first rapid growth of the company began in 1975, when Bill Bowerman came up with the famous corrugated sole looking at his wife's waffle iron. It was this innovation that allowed the firm to break out into leaders and make Nike sneakers the best-selling footwear in America.

In 1979, Nike had another revolutionary development: a built-in air cushion that extended the lines of the shoe service. This innovation, invented by air engineer Frank Rudy, served as the basis for the creation of the world famous, legendary series of Nike Air sneakers.

Our days

Today, the Nike brand is a symbol of sport, and its history to this day is rich in interesting facts. For example, in the near future the company has a joint project with Apple. Together they will release hi-tech-technology - these are sneakers and an audio player connected to each other.
