Hassan II Mosque


The Hassan II Mosque is a real decoration of Casablanca , its symbol and pride. The Hassan II mosque is one of the ten largest mosques in the world and is the largest mosque in Morocco . The construction of the ensemble started in 1980 and lasted 13 years. The architect of this unique project was Frenchman Michelle Pinzo, who, incidentally, is not a Muslim. The budget for the construction amounted to about 800 million dollars, part of the funds was collected with the help of donations from citizens and charitable organizations, part of the state's loans from other countries. The grand opening was held in August 1993.

The Hassan II mosque covers an area of ​​9 hectares and is located between the harbor and the lighthouse of El-Hank. Dimensions of the mosque are as follows: length - 183 m, width - 91.5 m, height - 54.9 m. The main materials used for construction, Moroccan origin (plaster, marble, wood), exceptions are only white columns of granite and chandeliers. The facade of the Mosque of Hassan II is decorated with white and cream stone, the roof is lined with green granite, and over the creation of stucco and ceilings, artisans worked for about 5 years.

The main feature of this building is that part of the building stands on land, and a part rises above the water - it became possible, thanks to a platform serving in the sea, and through the transparent floor of the mosque you can see the Atlantic Ocean.

On the territory of the mosque there is a madrasah, a museum, libraries, a conference hall, parking for 100 cars and a stable for 50 horses, the courtyard of the mosque is decorated with small fountains, and next to the mosque there is a cozy garden - a favorite place for family rest.

How to get there and when to visit?

You can reach the mosque in various ways: by bus No. 67 To Sbata, from the railway station on foot (about 20 minutes) or by taxi. Visit the mosque on the following schedule: Monday - Thursday: 9.00-11.00, 14.00; Friday: 9.00, 10.00, 14.00. Saturday and Sunday: 9.00 -11.00, 14.00. Entry is not possible for Muslims only within the excursion , the cost of which is about 12 euros, students and children are provided discounts.
