What color should the first chair of the newborn be?
Very often young moms start to think: "Why does my baby have a green chair?". During the first 3-5 days of life, the stool of a newborn child is normally dark green. It is called meconium and is formed in a small amount during the stay of the baby in the mother's womb.
The black-green stool of a child is the result of the appearance of iron and bismuth compounds in the feces. The latter enters the body exclusively from the outside, mainly with medicinal preparations. Iron can also come from the outside, or be released from red blood cells, which occurs during bleeding. In this case, the mother should definitely consult a doctor.
After a week, the stool becomes more permanent and its color changes. At this time, the stool of a child is usually yellow-green in color, and later becomes yellow.
Stool color during breastfeeding
The color of the stool of a child who is exclusively breastfed is the norm. Therefore, a woman should not be worried about this. The main reasons why a child eating a mixture of green stools are:
- intake of hormones in the body together with the mother's milk;
- excretion of bilirubin together with feces;
- stool oxidation;
- immaturity of the intestine, which consists in the lack of useful microflora;
- inadequate production of enzymes.
In some cases, even a liquid green stool in a child is the norm. However, to exclude the disease, it is worth informing the doctor about it.
If the green chair is a symptom of the disease
In some cases, the stool of a child can become frothy and still have a green color.
Thus, the color and consistency of the stool in a child may indicate the presence of any pathology in the body. That is why, parents should monitor these parameters of stool.
