Fiberglass on the ceiling

When planning and doing repairs, very often there is a question related to the finish of the ceiling. Glass fiber is considered the most common material for finishing not only the ceiling, but also the walls.

Fiberglass, used as a ceiling finish, has many advantages and properties: fire resistance, ecological compatibility (made of natural components), strength, no accumulation of static electricity, "breathable" surface (preventing the appearance of fungi and mold), affordability. In its structure it is a canvas made of fiberglass and impregnated with modified starch.

Fiberglass ceiling finishing - highlights and rules

Before finishing, you need to put the ceiling on and finish with sandpaper. Then coat with a primer to improve adhesion. This material will retain its strength and at the same time easily bend without damage and deformation. Steklooboi are made from environmentally friendly products and are endowed with the possibility of steam-water diffusion, which is excellent for allergy sufferers. In the surface, trimmed with fiberglass, you can easily screw in the screws and hang a light ceiling light. It is recommended to cover this surface with water-based paints. Steklooboi can be washed with water with any detergent. It is a hard-to-ignite material, which in principle is very hard to ignite.

How to glue the fiberglass on the ceiling for painting?

We have already mentioned that the first thing to do is to level the ceiling . The smooth, brushed and primed surface is ready for use. Canvas can be glued on different surfaces: plastic, concrete, brick, particle board, plasterboard and even metal. The surface looks smooth and smooth.

Pasting of the ceiling with a fiberglass provides for preparatory work, which consists in checking the surface for integrity and plaster. If there are cracks, then they need to be sealed. Minor cracks can be removed with a putty, and larger ones with a cement-sand mortar.

The pasting itself is done at room temperature with tightly closed windows (drafts are inadmissible) and the absence of high humidity. The joint is well smoothed using a spatula. When the surface dries well, you can start painting. To do this, it is better to use water-based or water-dispersed paint. There is an opinion that fiberglass can be painted with acrylates and latex analogues. It is worth considering that acrylates are suitable only for dry rooms: bedrooms, nursery or offices. Experts advise to apply one or two layers of putty again and only then to begin to paint, because then the fiberglass will not absorb so much paint and its consumption will significantly decrease.

Before gluing the fiberglass on the plasterboard ceiling, it is necessary to completely dismantle the old coating, to level and clean the ceiling of dust and contaminants. You can start the process of gluing either from the corner of the room or from the center. If you start from the center, then you will need to outline the line from which the process will begin. When pasting it is necessary to take into account the main points: the presence of two sides in the material (front and back). The front side is the outer part of the roll, which must "look" from the ceiling. There is an erroneous opinion that the fiberglass has an absolutely smooth surface. But this is not so, because it has the direction of the pile, which should be taken into account when pasting. The pile should go in one direction. Otherwise, the applied paint on the fiberglass will have different tones.
