Farley Hill Park

Farley Hill is a huge park stretching over 8 acres in Barbados . Being on the island and not going to Farley Hill is a real crime, especially since visiting this national park will not cost you a cent.

Features of the park

First of all, it should be mentioned that Farley Hill is a mountain park. It is located on a hill and this is favorably different from plain parks: from here a magnificent view of the east coast of the island and the Atlantic opens. There are also forests of Barbados red trees in the park - true, quite a bit. In one of them is the house Farley Hill, more precisely, its ruins. Once here, on the top of the hill, there was a large colonial house, a real palace, but time and fire destroyed it, leaving only the walls.

The history of the Farley Hill mansion is very entertaining. It was built in the XIX century by the British Sir Graham Briggs, who was involved in legislation. He took good care of the house and the surrounding territory, and even arranged beautiful gardens around the mansion, where he personally brought in rare plant species that had not previously grown on Barbados . Due to this, a national park subsequently appeared here. In 1966, the mansion was destroyed by fire, almost immediately after filming the movie "Island of the Sun" in it.

Today you can not just walk around the neighborhood, but also arrange a picnic in the mansion area - for this purpose there is a special zone here. And in the gardens of Farley Hill, an important festival takes place every year - a jazz festival, and at this time music lovers from all over the island and not only come here. At the same time, tourists walk with pleasure in the park, enjoying the peace and quiet, admiring the beautiful scenery and getting acquainted with the inhabitants of Farley Hill - deer, hamadry, green monkeys, raccoons, otters, caimans, tropical birds and other traditional representatives of the Barbados fauna.
