Decoration of flower pots

Decorating flower pots is a wonderful activity for creative people.

Many people (especially those living in urban type apartments) like to plant various houseplants. It is clear that in this case plants are planted in special pots (and especially large ones - even in tubs).

Which pots are better to decorate?

It is best to use pots of baked bisulphate clay (by the way, these are usually inexpensive), although there are other quite eco-friendly and original solutions. However, pots made of plastic are not useful for plants and for the inhabitants of the house, since plastic does not "breathe" and even with mild heating, it releases harmful compounds.

You can, of course, pick up pots for plants from those that are on sale, so that they match the style of the interior. However, we can not always find exactly what we want, in addition, serial products do not take into account the individual needs of each and often not only boring and faceless, but immodestly expensive. Meanwhile, some florists show tendencies for artistic activity and they decorate pots on their own.

How to decorate a flower pot?

The field for realization of own ideas in this question is wide enough. You can decorate flower pots in different ways, using almost any decorating technique. For example, you can paint them using tempera, acrylic paints or paint from cans.

Popular materials for decorating are coarse hemp twine, braid, pieces of fabric, felt, leather, buttons, beads, mollusc shells, small pebbles and other materials.

You can use the elements of the technique of applique, weaving, knitting.

The decoration of flower pots is perfectly complemented by elements of the "woody-vegetal" theme: birch bark, straws, willow rods, dry grass, reeds, bamboo and similar materials.

The design of flower pots is better thought out so that it harmoniously combined in color solutions with the interior.

You can select details for decor in a palette of different tones of the same color, for example, contrasting with the main color of the outer surface of the pot. Or vice versa - to select elements in tone with the basic color of the decorated surface. This method is especially suitable for decorating simple clay pots.

The design of flower pots should be carefully thought out in such a way as not to smear the surface with glue and do not varnish completely, because then the pot will not be able to "breathe" and the main advantage of a clay pot in front of the rest will be minimized. Therefore, for example, lovers of knitting and weaving can suggest to come up with knitted or woven covers for flower pots. Knitted and woven rope covers are easy to wash, and woven from twigs - brushing or vacuuming or washing.

Decoration of flower pots will not be too fast if you use PVA glue, but it's good for working with fabric, twine, burlap, felt and woody-grassy materials. For leather, buttons, shells, pebbles and glass, it is better to use other adhesives. In any case, it is better if the glue used is natural. Silicone glue and rubber sealant also give good results. To work with glue, you can use knives or plastic syringes without needles, which is quite convenient.

If you want to decorate several pots of the same size in the same style, it is advisable to use patterns, stencils or other patterns that are easy to make from an uneven flexible board.

When choosing a drawing or design idea (if, of course, you are experiencing a deficit of ideas), you can recall the ornaments. They always look good.
