Despite the development of the modern pharmaceutical industry, some pharmacies still produce medicines on individual recipes. In most cases, such means are complex drops in the nose. This type of drops include drugs that have in their composition two or more active substances aimed at systemic treatment of a particular otorhinolaryngic disease.
The composition of the drops
The main component of complex drops are vasoconstrictors (adrenomimetics). As is clear from the name, they cause narrowing of the capillaries located in the nose, thereby removing puffiness, restoring the patency of the nasal passages and facilitating breathing.
The most known vasoconstrictive drops in the nose:
- Naphthysine;
- Ximelin;
- Fornos;
- Otrivin and others.
It should be noted that the use of these drugs can cause a quickening of the pulse, increased pressure and other, rather unpleasant reactions of the body. And their prolonged exposure can lead to dry nasal mucosa and fragility of capillaries.
Quite often, complex drops contain antibiotics or anti-inflammatory drugs. It:
- Albucid;
- Dioxidite;
- Gentamicin.
Their action is aimed at combating viruses and bacteria in the nasal sinuses. Also, having a set of side effects, these remedies are cautiously included in the composition of nasal drops. In the absence of effect after 4-5 days, complex drops containing antibiotic must be replaced.
Antihistamine component in the complex drops in the nose has an anti-allergic effect and reduces the possibility of undesirable reactions to the drug. Most often it is:
- Diphenhydramine ;
- Suprastin.
The composition of complex drops in the nose with hormonal agents is most often prescribed for allergic rhinitis, when conventional means no longer help. Complex drops with glucocorticoids give a quick positive effect, but some local side reactions may become addictive.
In addition to the main active substances, the composition of the drops includes a "base". Most often it is saline, water or antiseptic:
- furacilin;
- Dioxydin;
- protargol;
- collargol.
Dioxydin is the most potent agent, and its use in most bacterial infections is justified. In addition, complex drops with dioxin can be prescribed for the treatment of a common cold with an unknown cause. In this case, they will also be quite effective and help restore breathing in a few days. And complex drops with dioxinin from a genyantritis, which include hydrocortisone and adrenaline, will help to recover from mild or moderate degree of this disease.
Also, complex drops in the nose can be enriched with vitamins A or E, essential oils or extracts of medicinal plants.
Precautions during treatment
When using complex drops, specify what is in the composition and what effect you should expect from their use. Remember that such drugs do not undergo complete clinical trials and the body's response to this or that composition can be individual for each person. And the use of complex drops with gentamycin or dioxidin have severe contraindications for use in children.
Homemade complex drops
There are cases when doctors advise patients to buy ingredients and make complex drops themselves. Despite the apparent simplicity and availability of ingredients, one should treat this "initiative" with caution. And there are several reasons for this:
- inaccurate dosage (excess or insufficient concentration);
- increased risk of adverse reactions due to drug interactions;
- labor intensity and cost of the process.
