What are the categories of motility of spermatozoa isolated?
In the analysis of the motility of spermatozoa, not only the speed of movement, but also the direction of movement of the sex cells is assessed. Usually, according to the results of the study, all spermatozoa are divided into 4 categories:
- a - sex cells with fast, progressive linear motion;
- b - slow linear progressive motion;
- c - there is no progressive movement or the spermatozoa move in one place, swaying from side to side;
- d - the sex cells are absolutely immobile.
Depending on the ratio of these categories and assess the male ejaculate for fertility.
Currently, in the west, there is a somewhat different system for assessing male sex cells for mobility. So, usually foreign experts allocate 3 categories of male sex cells when assessing their mobility:
- Progressive-mobile (PR) - male sex cells moving actively linearly or in a circle with a large radius. According to the above classification, these are cells of category a and b;
- non-progressive-mobile (NP) - spermatozoa having a mobility that does not fit into the above, with no progression (category c);
- motionless (IM) - the absence of any movement.
Immediate value for successful fertilization is the category of spermatozoa PR or a + b in another classification.
What parameters of mobility of spermatozoons correspond to the norm?
Despite the fact that, for successful fertilization, the morphology of germ cells is much more important than their mobility, the last parameter should also be taken into account when carrying out therapeutic measures for male infertility.
According to medical standards, when assessing sperm, mobile sex cells should be at least 35% of the total number of spermatozoa in the sample. It is this indicator that experts adhere to when assessing the quality of male sperm.
What determines the mobility of spermatozoa?
It is worth noting that this parameter of male reproductive cells is very influenced by external factors. That's why in males around the same age, this indicator may vary.
If we talk specifically about what affects the mobility of spermatozoa, then we need to name the following factors:
- bad habits (nicotine, alcohol);
- constant exposure to high temperatures (work in a hot shop, for example);
- presence of sexual infections and chronic foci of inflammation in the reproductive system of men;
- negative impact of environmental factors.
How to increase sperm motility?
Also, to increase the mobility of spermatozoa, drugs can be prescribed. Among them are Spemann, Proviron, Andriol, Pregnil. Duration of admission, multiplicity and dosage is indicated solely by the doctor.
Thus, we can say that the solution to this problem involves an integrated approach and constant monitoring by physicians.
