Wisteria - care and cultivation

Whoever has ever seen the flowering of wisteria, he will never forget the impression that she left. This plant can be decorated with a gazebo, a wall, an entrance to a house or a garden arch . But it only grows mainly in warm regions - in the Crimea or the Caucasus, for example. In other latitudes the heat-loving wisteria will not give such abundant and beautiful flowering without proper care.

Wisteria flower - planting and care

Tree-like and curling, it refers to the subtropical plants of the legume family. Begins to blossom in the spring and pleases all summer long with its light purple or white brushes. The second name of wisteria is Wisteria. Wisteria grows with lianas , therefore it needs care, namely - in reliable supports, on which they (lianas) will make their way up and to the sides.

You can plant wisteria in two ways - by layers or seeds. Cuttings should be selected among annual ripening shoots of 20-25 cm in length. Root them in soil mixtures from sod land, peat, sand and humus in a proportion of 3: 1: 1: 1. And already at the end of summer rooted shoots are planted in the open ground.

The second way of growing, seeds, is much more difficult. They can be planted in a greenhouse in November or in open ground in spring. At the same time, they need a leaf, sod with sand in the proportion of 4: 1: 1. After sowing seeds, they must be covered with a film to ensure moisture. We expose the fellows in a dark place for 3-4 weeks. Then we take them out into the light, dive as soon as the first two leaves appear.

Wisteria - growing conditions

When you grow wisteria, you need to follow certain rules and observe several important conditions. For example, a place for planting a plant must be sunny, as this is what ensures its abundant flowering.

The plant, as already said, curling, and he needs strong supports. Wisteria does not tolerate strong moisture, so it needs to be watered in spring and summer very moderately, just keeping the ground slightly damp. The soil itself should be light and nutritious.

If you do not live in the southern regions, then for the winter you need to cover wisteria. Some varieties do not tolerate frost above -20 ° C. To ensure abundant flowering, the plant must be cut 2 times: the first - immediately after the flowering, the second - after the fall of the leaves. As a result, the plant should not have side branches, except 3-5 kidneys.

Wisteria - care and rearing at home

If you live in such a latitude where it's impossible to grow this plant all year round, do not be discouraged. Wisteria can be planted in a large pot in the form of a stamping tree. In the cold season, the tree will live in a room with a temperature of 8-10 ° C, well, and in summer it can be taken out to the street.

In this case, it is especially important to form the crown by trimming the lateral shoots to 2-3 kidneys. To water a plant during its being on the street, it is necessary regularly, while during a rest period watering is practically reduced to nothing.
