Scottish fold

In Europe, the breed of Scottish Fold cats appeared in the 60s of the last century. As a result of the gene mutation in Scotland, a kitten with folded ears appeared. This baby was more like a bear or a suven than a cat. It was he who became the progenitor of the Scottish breed (some are confused with the British) lop-eared cat. In the original, the breed is called the Scottish Fold (Scottish Fold).

Already in 1978, the Fold Scots got exhibition status, and in 1993 the breed standard was adopted.

Thanks to gene mutation, not only a new kind of cats appeared. The mutation "rewarded" the animals with serious health problems as well. Crossing two lop-eared often leads to the birth of deaf kittens or kittens with diseased joints. Therefore, the Scottish Fold crossed with individuals of the breed with straight ears (Scottish Straight). For the same reason, small kittens are advised to pull the tail with force, so that the vertebrae do not grow together.

The breed of the lop-eared Scot, besides unusual ears, also differs in a certain type. It is a round head, very strong and powerful body, short legs, wide and straight nose. Wide chest and short legs give the clubfoot effect.

Adult lop-eared tartan has an exceptional character. These cats are incredibly smart and catch on the fly. Very easily and quickly accustom to the tray . Even in adolescence, they do not hang on the curtains and do not tear the wallpaper. Fifty Scots are endowed with well-developed intuition, so they find an approach to everyone in the family. Even with dogs this breed gets along easily. And not just get along, in the absence of the owner, it can replace the dog. A distinctive feature in the behavior of folds is the love of standing "column" on the hind legs. This is due to the physiological characteristics of the Scots. In addition, the unusual quality for cats is the fear of the Scots lop-eared.

Very careful care of the scotish fold does not require. If long-haired combed up to 3 times a week, then short-haired enough and one time to remove dead hairs. But cleaning the ears is the necessary procedure. This requires Scottish Fold (as well as Scotty Straight) in proper nutrition and the expression of a man's affection.

The colors of the Scottish fold are very diverse. In the breed there are not only monotonous individuals, but also tiger, spotted and marble. This is due to the fact that exotic cats participated in the formation of the breed. Today the Scots have about 60 colors.
