Architectural sights of Ryazan
First of all it is recommended to visit the pride of this city - the Ryazan Kremlin, located in its very center. This is a complex of architectural monuments of Ancient Rus, striking in its beauty and size:
- The Assumption Cathedral is 13 meters higher than Moscow's Cathedral . It is in it is a unique 27-meter iconostasis for 155 icons, carved from wood.
- The Cathedral belltower is the highest building of the Kremlin. Its height is 86 meters, 25 of which is a gilded spire.
- Christ Cathedral - in it are the relics of Bishop Basil of Ryazan and the tomb of princesses: Anna and Sophia.
- The Archangel Cathedral is one of the oldest buildings of the complex, it used to be the burial-vault of local bishops.
- The palace of Oleg - built in the traditional manner for Ancient Rus: with door windows, colorful platbands and baroque pediments. In this building there are exhibition halls of the museum.
- An ancient earthen shaft , the length of which is 290 meters. It was used to defend the city in the 13-17 centuries.
Since 1968, the territory of the entire Ryazan Kremlin was founded historical and architectural museum-reserve.
