Plastic curb for the bathroom

Framing the tub with a plastic curb is a prerequisite for the competent arrangement of the bathroom . It sometimes remains an invisible element of the interior, but it plays a very important role of sealing the gap between the wall and the bathroom. If the water does not penetrate the wall and the floor, then the room will have less dampness.

Varieties of plastic curbs for the bathroom

Today there are three main types of curbs for the bathroom:

  1. Plastic curbs for the bathroom in the form of a corner.
  2. Plastic self-adhesive border for the bathroom.
  3. Border under the tile - has a slightly different from the angular configuration.

The differences between these species are not large, but still there are. First of all, the cost is different. An ordinary corner plastic border is cheaper than a self-adhesive analog. This is due to the fact that in itself it is not a self-sufficient material: it needs to buy silicone and sealant. Actually, it is they who are entrusted with the main function of sealing and protecting the floor from water ingress, whereas the corner plays a rather decorative role, covering itself with a sealant and glue.

Quite different situation with self-adhesive border. It does not need additional materials. The main thing is that the pasted surface should be smooth, clean and dry. This minimizes the risk of water flowing under the unevenness.

But if there is a distance between the bathroom and the wall, then application of a self-adhesive border is impossible. In this case, only the corner border is needed. And, if the distance is quite large, then first you need to lay a slit with pieces of brick, and then trim a wide plastic curb for the bath or a tiled curb, applying a sufficient amount of glue under it.

The third type of curbs for the bathroom has a special design, designed for mounting under ceramic tiles. Protection from leaks is due to a double rubberized edge. It has compact dimensions, that is why it is often used not only for baths, but also for shells.

This curb is mounted during the laying of tiles directly under it. It is one of the best ways to seal the joint between the bath / sink and the wall.

Subtlety of mounting a plastic curb on the bathroom

If the curb assembly is not made during the repair, but later, then before that you need to clean the surface. This can be done with water and detergents.

After thoroughly removing all traces of the detergent, it is necessary to thoroughly wipe the edges of the bathroom and the wall until completely dry. It is best to do this with paper towels, until the next one and they will not remain completely dry. Rag, by the way, will not give such a result.

Next, you need to degrease the surface, for this use white spirit or gasoline. Do not use strong and aggressive solvents at this stage, so as not to spoil the acrylic on the bathroom and the tiles on the walls. Then apply glue according to the instructions. The seam should be solid and thin. All irregularities are also filled with glue.

Immediately apply a curb and hold it tightly until the glue hardens. To completely eliminate leakage, all irregularities and cracks are then sealed with a sealant or waterproof putty.

All surpluses of glue and sealant are removed either mechanically (cut with a sharp construction knife) or dissolved with the help of strong solvents. The second method can spoil the curb itself and the bathroom, so that it is practically not used.

To remove excess glue, you can wipe them with a cloth soaked in white spirit. The glue under its influence will peel off and it can be easily removed with a spatula. On this your mini-repair will be finished.
