Women's fashion of the 50's
In the 1950s, fashion evolved from the simplicity, convenience, economy and practicality inherent in the fashion of the previous decade, to beauty and pretentiousness. Indeed, economic recovery and peaceful life led to interest in secular entertainment, which required special clothing. The overall style of the decade was set by the great French fashion designer Christian Dior, suggesting the silhouette of New Look . He was characterized by emphatically feminine forms of cut-sloping shoulders, thin waist, lush skirts with a multitude of aprons. An integral part of this style was a large number of accessories: gloves, handbags, hats, necklaces and earrings, as well as carefully selected make-up in a tone for the costume and a neatly laid hairstyle.
Many ladies from high society now allowed themselves to change their clothes up to 7 times a day. In fashion, the image of an ideal housewife: always neatly looking, in an elegant and well-dressed figure, with styling and make-up. Such a woman could not appear unpainted even before her husband, so she had to get up much earlier than him to lay her hair and apply makeup.
Such an image of "a bird in a golden cage" caused a storm of resentment among feminists, but the influence of the New Look style was so great that their voices simply drowned in the rustling skirts of girls who finally got the opportunity to show off. The fashion for the dresses of the 50's is lush, flared skirts or, conversely, very narrow to the bottom silhouettes. Towards the end of the decade, coats and dresses of straight or cocoon-like cuts appeared.
Shoes and accessories
Great attention at that time was paid to footwear and accessories. They had to complete the image, so carefully thought through and selected the tone in the tone of the arc to a friend or to the side. The obligatory attribute of a girl of that time was gloves. Shoes usually consist of elegant shoes with a high and thin heel with a round nose. Later, the heel became a hairpin. In 1955, the shoe designer Roger Vivier suggested shoes with a "shock" heel, heavily curved inwards. Also in these years there were shoes without a heel - ballet shoes. Hats of the 50's have a round, soft and flat top. The fields can be large or small. A traditional ornament of many women is a string of pearls around the neck, which some of them do not even take off at home.
