Farmhouse Museum in Glaumbaere

Glaumbaere is in the north of Iceland , six kilometers from the city of Blendyuus. This place is known to the Farm Museum, which represents several houses connected by tunnels. The complex of buildings is unique in that buildings were built at different times, and each of them demonstrates the technique of building a particular period.

What to see?

In the center of the exposition there are herbal houses that were built in the second half of the XIX century. But the farm here was formed long before their appearance, this is said by the stone structures of the Viking times. They lived here in the XI century, and at the same time built houses for themselves from improvised materials. But in order to build from such a heavy material as a stone, you need to have a strong force, as well as suitable tools for this purpose. Icelanders, who decided to settle these places a little more than a century and a half ago, had a shortage of resources, so they built unique herb houses in their own way. Above the ground level of the buildings are only the roofs. All the premises under the ground were official. All the houses connect the larger corridor with the earthen walls. The only thing that strengthens them is the logs that prop up the walls and beams under the ceiling. Premises found in the ground played the role of warehouses, kitchens and rooms for storing pickles. Today, each of the rooms is restored interior, while the items that are there, most of them original. Therefore, a tour of the "dungeon" will be interesting and informative.

But where did the farmers live in that case? They were able to restore the houses of the Vikings and lived in warm and bright rooms. Now in these rooms there is furniture, which tells about their purpose, and also there are household items. Kitchen utensils, amulets and children's toys, original and were found at the discovery of the farm. Tablecloths, clothes and other products from the canvas are the work of local craftsmen who have preserved the traditions of weaving and were able to create things like two drops similar to those used by their ancestors.
