Dong Hysau reservation

The southern part of Laos in the area of Pakse city has sheltered one of the most unique and most interesting reservations of the country - Dong Hissau. Its inhabitants lived for a long time in isolation and seclusion, because this place retained the first human settlements created in natural conditions.

History of creation

Most of the territory of Laos consists of mountain systems and ridges that separate it from neighboring states. The mountains are covered with forests, consisting of valuable species of mahogany, bamboo, teak. In the second half of the twentieth century. many forests were subjected to predatory destruction, which led to an imbalance in the local biosphere. That is why the state authorities began to develop programs designed to preserve the natural resources of Laos. So in many provinces there were nature reserves, including Dong Hyssau.

Residents of Dong Hissau

Tourists caught on the Dong Hysau reservation can see villages built in the mountains and visit them. The aborigines living in them, are farming and survive, like hundreds of years ago, only thanks to the gifts of nature. During the excursion you can talk with the residents of the communities, get acquainted with their customs and way of life , make memorable photos and buy local souvenirs .

How to get there?

You can get to the reserve from the cities of Attapa , Pakse or Tyampatsak. But keep in mind that independent visits are prohibited: entrance to the park is allowed only to tour groups with a guide.
