The forefather of the canopy in Russia was a cotton cape over a baby cot, playing the role of protecting the baby from insects and a draft. Later, beautiful, and sometimes simply luxurious canopies appeared above the adult beds as an ornament.
Varieties of modern canopies on an adult bed
