Yumebutai


The Japanese garden is a unique example of landscape design. Historical reference

During the rapid development of some areas of Osaka Bay and the construction of the international airport of Kansai in the 1990s, From the slope of the mountain on the island of Awaji, the soil was actively exported. Japanese architect Tadao Ando decided to restore the area, destroyed due to construction activities, and transform it into a cozy corner of nature, where guests and residents of the city could rest. Tadao received permission from local authorities to turn these lands into a traditional park.

However, before the construction was completed, in 1995 the island of Awaji and the territory around Kobe suffered from a strong earthquake, then about 6000 people died. The architect had to revise the plans for construction, and then the idea arose to create a memorial. Now Avachi Yumebutai is a complex that includes an original garden of hundreds of flower beds, as well as a small amphitheater, a square, a conference center, a restaurant and a hotel.

A striking part of the complex is the 100-step garden Yumebutai, whose name literally translates as "a place for dreams." Exactly 100 flower gardens in small square-gardens, which are located on the slope behind the hotel , cause true admiration for every traveler. Each square, abundantly dotted with flowers throughout the four seasons, is a kind of symbol in memory of those who died from a natural disaster.

Stair flights are designed so that each visitor can alternately bypass all 100 square flower beds. Yumebutai garden is located on the highest point and is combined with other buildings cascade continuously descending for 10 m of water. How to get to the 100-step garden?

From the town of Awaji to the garden of Yumebutai it is easy to get there by public transport and by car.
