Stella McCartney decided to completely abandon the use of natural wool

A popular fashion designer and vegetarian, Stella McCartney is unshakable in her convictions. It promotes innovative solutions designed to completely eliminate animal products from the fashion world. To encourage the "young talents" couturier announced a contest for the invention of vegan wool. Its main goal is to replace all animal materials in its collections with vegetable ones.

Stella McCartney is supported in her endeavors by the animal protection organization PETA and the investment company Stray Dog Capital. They will sponsor the award "Fur without Animals".

The contest that Stella came up with is called the Biodesign Challenge. It is aimed at talented students and scientists who work in the field of biotechnology. The main task of the contestants is to develop an adequate alternative to wool.

Modern technologies for the benefit of animals

Here's how the fashion designer commented on her undertaking:

"I am encouraged by what is happening in the field of biotechnology. My goal is for students to come up with a working "living" concept that works without failures. To vegan wool, I have a number of requirements - it must be breathable and elastic. "

According to Stella, three dozen teams from different universities will compete in the contest. They will be given the opportunity to come to visit McCartney, in her studio.
