MDF panels for wall finishing

Today MDF panels for wall decoration have become very popular, they are used in a variety of rooms due to a number of positive qualities that they possess.

What is the MDF panel and how it is used in construction and repair - we'll talk about this in our article.

Types of MDF panels for wall decoration

MDF is a medium density fibreboard. The use of it is multifaceted, but most often it is the walls that make it up. Due to the fact that the surface of such a slab can have almost any texture due to the application of a special layer on top, many types of valuable trees and other finishing materials can be imitated with it.

Depending on the appearance, all MDF panels can be roughly divided into 2 types:

  1. With a flat surface - panels are covered with a thin film, which gives the product the desired look, texture and color. The second name for such MDF panels for walls is laminated.
  2. With a fancy surface

    - the material on the outside has this or that form obtained by pressing. Later, the surface is often applied varnish.

Also, MDF panels may differ in size. Depending on this parameter, there are:

  1. Rack type panels . They are narrow and quite long.
  2. Tiled - square shaped. After finishing, the walls are covered with tiles . It is very easy to use such panels.
  3. Leaf - these panels are large and used for decoration of walls or in the furniture industry - they produce excellent kitchen sets .

Walling of MDF panels with panels - area of application

Facing the walls with MDF panels is an excellent and relatively inexpensive way of finishing. Often used out of office premises, in the corridors of business centers or guest rooms.

However, decorative MDF panels are also excellent for finishing the walls of living quarters. So, often waterproof panels can be found in bathrooms and toilets, in living rooms and bedrooms, kitchens and hallways.

Demanded them makes a low cost in combination with ease of installation, no need for a long and thorough preparation of the walls before attaching the panels. In addition, such panels are easy to care for - they can be washed with a damp cloth. Behind them, it is easy to hide all communications such as wires and cables. They are durable and are not afraid of mechanical impact.

Features of mounting MDF panels

As already mentioned above, it is not necessary to thoroughly prepare the walls before fastening these panels. Surfaces can not be plastered as carefully as required when pasting them with wallpaper or applying decorative plaster.

But if the walls are perfectly aligned, you can fasten the panels to "liquid nails" directly to them. In this case, you will not lose a centimeter of the useful area of the room. However, this method is not always applicable. More often it is necessary to fasten the panels to the guides, previously bolted to the walls.

The second option is preferable, since it is easier to mount such a cover, and the room can be used immediately after the completion of work. And dismantling, if necessary, is easy and quick. In addition, in the interstitial space, additional ventilation is formed, so that the coating is less prone to seasonal fluctuations in humidity and temperature.

As the guides can serve wooden slats or metal profiles for gypsum board. If you choose the first option, make sure that the slats are well dried and perfectly even. But in order not to be afraid of possible problems due to the unreliability of such material, it is better to choose metal guides.
