Dancing shoes

The question of how to choose the right shoes for dancing is not only for beginning dancers, but sometimes for professionals. To achieve a high class in dance, correcting the constantly flinging shoe, you will agree, it is impossible. Therefore, when choosing shoes for classes, it is necessary to take into account some features, which we will discuss further.

Types of shoes for dancing

Depending on the type of program, there are two categories of professional dance shoes: standard and Latin:

  1. Standard . Such shoes will suit those who are engaged in dancing from the European group, which includes quickstep, waltz, tango and foxtrot. A distinctive feature of women's shoes for ballroom dance sports of this group is the stiffness of the shoe and an elongated arch support. Thanks to this movement becomes more confident, which helps not only to better convey the essence of the dance, but also to show excellent technique.
  2. Latina . From the name itself it is clear that this kind of shoes is more suitable for Latin American dances - samba, cha-cha-cha, rumba and pasodoble. A step in these dances comes with a sock, in contrast to the European group, where movements start from the heel, so the presence of a shortened instep is so important.

There is one more category - training shoes for ballroom dancing, or jazz. Despite the less attractive appearance (they resemble men's shoes for latin), this shoe is made of a material that allows the legs to freely "breathe", which makes it possible to use for everyday activities.

How to choose shoes for dancing?

Before going to the store for a new pair of dance shoes, we offer you to read some recommendations that will help you make a choice:

  1. Quality . Rely not only on appearance, but also on the quality of the material. Shoes for dancers are very important, so professionals advise choosing shoes from natural leather.
  2. Color of shoes . For Latin American dances more often choose shoes of red, brown and gold color. For the European group, it's better to give preference to the classics - white and black shoes for such dances as, for example, waltz and foxtrot, fit perfectly.
  3. Sole . One of the most important criteria for choosing shoes for ballroom dance sports is a soft sole. Also it is necessary to take into account the material from which it is made. Rubber in this case is contraindicated, but the sole of the inverted skin is just right. Remember that the shoes should slide during the dance, but not too much, otherwise you can get the opposite effect - the partner will only think about how not to fall.
  4. The correct size . Any discrepancy in the size of the shoes can lead to serious complications, including foot deformities. This is especially true of people who decide to devote their lives to the art of dance. Special shoes should fit tightly around the leg, but do not press.
  5. Heel . Almost all shoes that we can see on the shelves in specialized stores, has a heel of medium height - 5-9 centimeters. Professional dancers recommend newcomers to buy shoes on a low stable heel (Czechs give wrong fundamentals of technology, so they should be abandoned). If you do not imagine your life without heels and are confident that you can move without difficulty even in shoes with a high lift, then choosing shoes for dancing will not be a problem for you.
