Atlantic Road

Atlantic Road is an unusual road in Norway . It winds like a snake, between islands and islets, connecting the island of Avera with the mainland. Between the islands, eight bridges are laid. The road was opened in 1989. This is the most beautiful road in Norway, which has the status of a national tourist route. The contrast between a trip over a sun-drenched road on a calm summer day and a journey into a storm is surprising. Such memories will last a lifetime.

Architecture Atlantic Road

The Atlantic road is known as the "Road in the Ocean". It has 8 bridges, the total length of which is 891 m. Atlantic Road is laid along the very edge of the Atlantic Ocean, allowing to make a unique trip, and is considered the most beautiful road in Norway due to a combination of modern technology and picturesque nature. The total length of the Atlantic Road is 8274 m. This is a real engineering feat.

In addition to the fact that such a complex structure was designed, it was built in severe weather conditions. Construction lasted 6 years. 12 storms during this time had to move the builders. The surface of the road is asphalt, the cost of which is more than $ 14,000,000. Besides the bridges, the Atlantic Road also has specially equipped grounds, on which you can fish, enjoy beauty, relax or take pictures of beautiful landscapes around you.

The Significance of the Atlantic Road

For many centuries the ocean is of great importance to the Norwegians. The fishing industry is very developed here. The Atlantic road not only improves the transportation of goods, but is also an excellent opportunity to make an unforgettable journey by car, on foot or by bike.

Lovers of fishing will find many good places on the shore and when fishing from the boat. The area is very interesting for observing seabirds, seals and other rare animals. If you're lucky, you can see a sea eagle floating above the waves.

Interesting places on Atlantic Road

The most notable objects along the entire length of the road are the following:

  1. Storseisundbrua is the longest bridge on the Atlantic road and its symbol. The trip is like an attraction. It turns to the right, to the left, it rises and sometimes it seems that now you will fall into the abyss. You need to have strong nerves and drive well to drive here, especially in bad weather.
  2. Myrbærholmbrua is a bridge with a specially fenced path for fishing. Tracks are made on both sides.
  3. Kjeksa - a great holiday destination near the village of Bad. A neatly paved area with a table and picnic benches allows you to sit comfortably and admire the sea. Nearby there is a staircase along which you can go down to the sea.

The platform is located on the very edge of the earth and stands slightly in the sea, it opens a panoramic view of the ocean, the archipelago and the mountainous coast.

Weather

The weather in this area is severe and unpredictable. The bright sun quickly changes to clouds, often a sudden snowfall begins. Strong wind is especially unpleasant, often it exceeds 30 miles per hour. Drivers at such times need to be especially careful. A bridge can become a real trap. At times, waves run to the asphalt. The road is open even during a storm and lightning, and this, of course, causes an unforgettable experience, but it is better to stop in a safe place and wait out the bad weather.
