Laminated laminate - how to fix it?

Laminate today is one of the most popular types of flooring. Due to its easy and fast installation, this material is used both in residential and office buildings. Care of it is simple, but sometimes the laminate can be deformed, that is, swell. But do not rush to change the entire cover. Let's look at why the laminate is swollen and how this situation can be remedied.

Laminated laminate - how to fix without replacement?

Specialists distinguish several reasons that lead to damage to the laminate.

  1. First, this coating can be swollen due to irregularities during laying. Under the influence of temperature fluctuations and changes in humidity in the room, this wood material can expand and contract. And if there are no special compensation gaps between the lamellas and the wall, the laminate, expanding, will rest against the wall and swell.
  2. As experts advise, if the laminate is swollen, then to fix this lack, without examining the entire coating, you need to remove the skirting boards and gently cut the projecting parts of the slats with a sharp tool to a width of 1.5-2 cm. Do not forget about the width of the plinth, because he It must completely close the gaps formed.

  3. If the water from the laminate is accidentally spilled and immediately collected, and the floor is dried, there will be no harm to the coating. But if the moisture on the floor of the laminate will remain for a long time, the fabric will swell. As practice shows, if the laminate is swollen with water, then to correct this, you need to take some measures. To do this, remove the plinth, dismantle the damaged lamellas, dry the substrate, and, installing new tiles, collect the floor.
  4. The interference to the natural expansion of lamellas may be moldings, which are often installed on a laminate covering. To prevent this from happening, you need to mount these elements directly to the floor screed.
  5. Low-quality laminate, especially cheap, can be swollen. In this case, only complete replacement of the coating will help. To deformations can lead and poor preparation of a basis of a floor. And here everything can be fixed, only completely removing the old laminate and the substrate.
  6. Laminate can swell in place of locks or joints. Sometimes this occurs when the substrate is incorrectly selected. For lamellas with a thickness of 7 mm, a substrate should be selected not more than 2 mm, and for thicker boards the thickness of the substrate can be up to 3 mm.
